Josh Baker Seattle Concert reviews
Willie & Bobbie Nelson &Guests--Phenomenal!
An unforgettable experience, this show was a once-in-a-lifetime full event! If it comes to your areas, I highly recommend grabbing tickets ASAP.
Alison Krauss & her band (Union Station I believe) was also part of this Event, and they also did a full concert! Alison's voice is, and always has been, 'like a songbird'...just phenomenal. Her band was top-notch. If there was any 'negative' to Alison's performance, it was similar to that of Bonnie's...she stayed in the middle, surrounded by her band members the whole time. She smiled a lot, but never focused on anyone or any part of the audience. To be fair, I have heard that she has always had stage fright (unlike anything I've ever heard regarding Bonnie) and hence, that is the reason she has only rarely toured through the years.
Bonnie Raitt used to be one of my all-time favorite female artists; I have all her recordings (as I do both Willie's & Bobbie's), and have attended all of her live performances in my area. However, I extremely dislike her three most recent recordings, especially the two prior to her latest. Her tour for one of those came up here and as always, I attended...and was totally disappointed. She did only 2-3 of her prior songs that made her a fan-favorite! Well, at this show, Bonnie was 'back to her great self'...she did a full concert consisting of all of the great songs that 'made' her, as well as a couple off her latest release. And she was in top-notch form--voice, slide, and even keyboards on a couple tunes (although she had one of the best board players, Ivan Neville, for the rest of her set! She also had her long-time guitarist, who was excellent)! If there was any 'negative' at all about Bonnie's performance, it was that she did not really focus on her whole audience. She basically set her eyes on one person front and center, and stuck to that. This could possibly be expected from a new artist with a bit of stage fright, but not from a seasoned performer such as Bonnie!
Willie & Sister Bobbie were at their finest, at least in the past three years! Yes, I'm a huge fan of theirs and thus have attended their every live performance in my area, as well as some out west. However, I also write honest reviews...they were spectacular! Willie's voice was the best I've heard in three years, and both Willie's and Bobbie's fingers were on higher-speed top-notch auto-pilot in their mid-late 80's than I may have ever experienced, even when they were in their mid-late 40's! And, they both have 'hunters' eyes & ears', as they actually heard and saw specific fans such as myself from that stage in that huge venue.
There were also two other bands on at this event that did good-sized sets...both were very good!
